Tensions between Iran and the United States remain high as retaliatory strikes continue across the Gulf region, with no clear resolution in sight for the ongoing standoff over the Strait of Hormuz.
The latest exchange began after Iran attacked a Cyprus-flagged container ship passing through the strait, prompting a series of US military strikes on Iranian targets. In response, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps carried out drone and missile strikes on US-linked sites across Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, and Kuwait.
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in a statement that Iran had “made a serious miscalculation” and would face further consequences. The exchange has effectively ended a temporary shipping agreement reached between Washington and Tehran earlier this year.
